The mass could begin with the Reception of the body on the day of the Funeral, or without the Reception of the body, if it was received into church the night before the service at the Vigil.

A Requiem Mass could also be said for the deceased without the reception of the body if the Funeral Service has already taken place and the body having already been committed. This would give the family the chance to have a Mass said for their loved one.

It is becoming more popular for the body to be received into church on the day of the Funeral Service. If this is required, the Priest will meet the family at the back of the church, bless the coffin, and all process into church for the Funeral Mass.

Once the body has been received into church, either at the Vigil or on the day of the Funeral, it will not leave the Church until it is taken to the cemetery or crematorium for the committal. So, please bear this in mind should you wish for your loved one to go to their place of rest starting from home or some other place which was important to them. The way round this is to call at the place on the way to the cemetery/crematorium, but more time would have to be added for this and you will have to speak to your funeral director about this.
