And that's it. On the side is a list of readings. Simply choose one from each. Give some thought to which reading you like, or is perhaps relevant to your loved one. Perhaps a reading says something about the sort of person they were, or the things they dealt with in their lives. Remember that the readings, and the whole service for that matter is about your loved one and should not be about ourselves.

Most people will have some idea of what hymns they want for the Service, but what readings they want is a different matter. The readings are all taken from the bible; the Old Testament, the Psalms (Old Testament), the New Testament, and the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) from the New Testament.

You may have a favourite reading you want read at the Service, which is not in the Bible, such as a poem, or a from a favourite book your loved one read, or maybe a favourite quote. A Gospel reading would suffice for the Funeral Service, but you can have other readings too, but thought must be given to the fact that you only have half an hour for the service in church, and only twenty minutes for the service in the Cemetery/Crematorium Chapel.

The Priest will always read the Gospel, and if you want, family or friends can read the other readings. You will need to give some thought to this. If the person who wants to do a reading does not do it in their own church on a regular basis, it's perhaps best for them not to do it. It can be very difficult for someone to get up in front of a full church, especially if that person's not in their comfort zone. But of cause, if that person reads regularly in the church, then that would be fine.
