Baptism

To book a Baptism please contact Fr Michael by phone or email and he will help you with the preparation for the baptism of your child.

Children aged up to the age of 7 are baptised as infants. One parent needs to be Catholic, and you need one Godparent who is Catholic, aged 16 or over, and regularly attends Church. Parents are prepared for the baptism of their infant.

Children aged over 7 will be baptised as children, and will  themselves need to be prepared for the sacrament. Again, one parent needs to be Catholic, and one Catholic Godparent is sufficient, who regularly attends Church. If the child is aged 8 or over, they will also receive communion, a child aged 10 or over will also be confirmed. These can be referred to the school if they attend a Catholic school, but they can receive the sacraments at any reasonable time.

Children who wish to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Communion and Confirmation, whose parents are not Catholic, will be received into the church with the permission of the Archbishop if parents agree. It is usual for parents to convert too, but not necessary provided the child has reasonable reason and the parents agree.
